My Current Everyday Makeup

Images and words by me

My everyday makeup can change quite a bit dependant on products that I buy or certain looks that I want to go for (I once went through a serious smokey eye phase) but I tend to always have a similar base. I've recently started using primer again, preferring Benefit's Porefessional over others on the market and then I apply concealer, foundation and powder. I've already written about my experience with Estee Lauder Double Wear (you can read it here) and I'm currently using the Helen E Cover It! concealer pot which helps to hide imperfections and smooth out areas of my skin. I started using MAC Fluidline Browcreme a few months ago in Dirty Blonde for my eyebrows and I haven't looked back since! I originally used eyebrow pencils, but I found that my eyebrows looked too sharp and decided to try something a little more natural looking. Gel is easier to manipulate than pencil and you can create neater brows when applied using an angled brush. My eye makeup consists of around three eyeshadow colours, a flick of eyeliner and some lengthening mascara for a bright wide eyed look. I've been obsessed with the Makeup Revolution Hot Smoked palette at the moment, it's a brilliant collection of day to night shades of the usual highly pigmented quality Makeup Rev are known for. I like to start with the pale creamy shade along the brow bone and lid, the beige shade on the main part of the lid and a shimmery brown in the crease. It's subtle blend of colours that give an almost natural look but add a little more emphasis on the eyes. If I want something a little darker then I swap the beige for a gorgeous Lavender shade that brings out the blue in my eyes and gives a soft smokey appearance.

I've always been a fan of eyeliner and I've tried a lot of different types including felt and liquid liners, but at the moment I've been using Maybelline Gel Liner. I used this a lot in university and then moved on to felt liners as they are easy to use and more precise, but when out shopping a couple of weeks back I decided to go back to gel. I find you get a more prominent black line with gel over other liners and whilst it isn't as easy to apply, with a little practice you can get a beautiful cat eye flick! I also find that if you haven't quite got the line right you can always smudge it a little to fill in any gaps without ruining it completely. Maybelline is also my go to for mascara and their The Colossal Go Extreme in Leather Black is a great budget mascara to help you achieve dark fuller lashes, without that 'spider lash' clumping. I like to start from the base of the eyelashes and wiggle my brush up to separate them and apply my mascara evenly. A second coat is always good if you are looking for more dramatic lashes, but once again be careful of clumping, less is always more! If you are looking for added volume and lengthening, then Maybelline offer a Roller Lash dupe called Lash Sensational, but be aware that it is a little tricky to get off!

Finally, my finishers - a deep rosey blush by NYX in Pinched, sweeped across the cheekbones and a little Hoola (not pictured) by Benefit in the hollows of my cheeks and on the side of my nose. I do add highlighter occasionally in the form of Clinique's Highlighting Chubby Stick, but on a day-to-day basis, I try not to overdo my makeup and keep it looking subtle. The NYX blush is gorgeous when applied and helps achieve a warmer complexion, especially so when paired with my bronzer - it gives me a bit of a sunkissed glow on the cheeks which I love! For dark circles I use NYX Dark Circle Concealer which uses orange tones to hide any purple toning and wake up your eye area and finally I finish off my look with a dusting of NYX Studio Finishing Powder (review here!!).

I do wear lipsticks quite often, but I wouldn't say they are an everyday makeup necessity for me and so I haven't included them in my round up. I also have far too many to choose from, so they probably deserve a post of their own to discuss the colours that I'm loving at the moment, but that's a thought for another day. Now all I need to do is work on getting ready faster!
